The second shipment of freight and passenger locomotives from China is expected in the country before the middle of the month,Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) project consultant Johnson Matu has said.
Mr Matu said the second consignment is one of the biggest after last week’s consignment.
“The consignment consists of 230 wagons for carrying goods with more cargo and passengers coaches on the way,” he said at the Miritini passenger terminal in Jomvu Kuu constituency, Mombasa County.
Matu said the Miritini passenger terminal will be ready by the end of next month.
He said tested freight and passenger locomotives take two days to arrive in Nairobi from Mombasa because they were being pulled.
He told journalists upon arrival in Nairobi the locomotives will be inspected.
“Performance test will be carried out before the official launch of the flagship project,” he pointed out adding that the project will be completed ahead of schedule.
He said the SGR project is eight months ahead of time adding that 60 wagons will arrive next week from China.
