Wealth in 2026 is no longer simply a measure of money in the bank. It is a reflection of technological power, global business empires, political influence, royal heritage, sporting fame and ownership of some of the world’s most valuable assets.
From Silicon Valley to royal palaces, luxury estates and private islands, extraordinary fortunes continue to shape the way people live, invest and influence the world around them.
The ranks of the ultra-rich have also reached unprecedented levels. Forbes’ 2026 annual billionaires list counted 3,428 billionaires with a combined fortune of $20.1 trillion, with technology entrepreneurs dominating the upper reaches of the rankings.
At the top are familiar names such as Elon Musk, whose interests span electric vehicles, space exploration and artificial intelligence, alongside technology giants including Larry Page, Sergey Brin, Jeff Bezos, Mark Zuckerberg and Jensen Huang.
Their fortunes can fluctuate dramatically with movements in technology stocks and the value of their companies, making the global wealth league table a constantly changing picture.
But immense wealth is not confined to technology. Royal families, business dynasties, sporting legends and entertainment stars have built or inherited fortunes that extend well beyond conventional investments.
Countries and cities, too, play a central role as centres of wealth, luxury and economic power, while extraordinary properties, aircraft, yachts, art collections and other assets represent the scale of spending available to the world’s wealthiest individuals.
Here is a guide to some of the world’s richest people, places and most remarkable assets in 2026.

He diversified his holdings in 2022 by purchasing Twitter, which he renamed X. Kuwaiti Dinar (KWD)
The Kuwaiti dinar (KWD) remains the world’s highest-valued currency unit, commanding a significantly higher exchange value than the US dollar. One Kuwaiti dinar is worth several US dollars, making it one of the strongest currencies in the global foreign-exchange market.
The currency’s strength is closely linked to Kuwait’s oil-rich economy, with petroleum revenues playing a major role in supporting the country’s financial position.
Kuwait is one of the world’s major oil producers, and its substantial oil reserves have helped underpin government revenues, foreign-exchange earnings and economic stability.
Monetary policy also plays an important role in maintaining the dinar’s high value. Kuwait manages its currency against a basket of major international currencies, rather than allowing it to float freely against the US dollar.
This approach, combined with the country’s oil wealth and sizeable financial reserves, has helped the Kuwaiti dinar retain its position as the world’s highest-valued currency unit.
