On September 11, 2017, President Uhuru Kenyatta made a statement that confounded both friends and foes.
He warned Raila Odinga that he would be impeached by Jubilee MPs should he be elected president in the October 2017 repeat presidential polls.
The President said his Jubilee Party has unfettered control of both the National Assembly and the Senate and would make it impossible for Raila to govern the country in the event the National Super Alliance (NASA) candidate beats him in the October 17 poll ordered by the Supreme Court.
“Even if he is elected we have the opportunity in Parliament within two or three months to impeach him,” said Uhuru.
This statement shocked many in the opposition and Jubilee circles with Kenyans on social media arguing that the President had sensed defeat.
But for me this statement was not surprising. Just before the August 8, 2017 General Election I had written three articles that highlighted different scenarios about the Uhuru presidency. They included:
President Uhuru Kenyatta: is his first term in office jinxed?

Those who know me will tell you I am not one to pretend to be in the league of the self-proclaimed Prophet David Owour whose followers’ recently flooded Nairobi streets to celebrate his resurrection of a woman by the name Mama Rosa.
However, all the same my article asking whether President Kenyatta’s first term was jinxed was confirmed by the Supreme Court ruling that nullified his second term election.
Jubilee ‘strategists’ should remember the eve of September 1, 2017 ahead of the Supreme Court ruling that nullified presidential election.
They deployed all the ammunitions they had in their arsenal including lawyers, security agents, wheeler-dealers who ran all over the city until the wee hours of September 1, in their efforts to ensure the court’s decision was in favour of President Kenyatta.
They should also remember all the dirty tricks they had employed before the August 8, General Election to ensure they stopped a Raila presidency which will finally exposed by the Supreme Court ruling on the presidential petition case.
To me the Supreme Court decision to nullify the presidential election was an act of God. God gave Justice David Maraga the will power to withstand any form of intimidation or coercion and that is why he stated the following words before reading his ruling:
“The greatness of any nation lies in its fidelity to the Constitution and adherence to the rule of law and above all respect to God.”
Jubilee supporters should remember that you can you use force to suppress the will of the people, ‘silence’ the media, deceive Raila and international observers, but one thing you cannot do as a human being is to subvert the will of God.

Nelson Mandela once said: “A critical, independent, and investigative press is the lifeblood of any democracy. The press must be free from state interference. It must have the economic strength to stand up to the blandishments of government officials. It must have sufficient independence from vested interests to be bold and inquiring without fear or favor. It must enjoy the protection of the constitution, so that it can protect our rights as citizens.”
