Kenyans have reacted with anger after it emerged that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) ICT manager who went missing on Friday was brutally murdered.
Musando went missing after conducting an interview with a local TV station on Friday. IEBC and his family came out on Sunday, July 30, and announced that Msando was missing.
On Monday, July 31, Msando’s car was found parked in Roysambu area, Nairobi. Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria was the first to break the news of the discovery of the car.
Msando was scheduled to lead the simulations of IEBC crucial election results transmission equipment on Monday, July 31 at Bomas of Kenya before he went missing.
He was responsible for the entire body of electoral data that is the basis of next month’s election, including the Kenya Integrated Election Management System (KIEMS), voter identity, verification, results transmission and the entire electronic tallying process.
IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati, reacting to the death of Msando asked the police to boost security for senior officials of the electoral commission.
“There is no doubt he was tortured. The only question is who killed him and why,” Mr Chebukati told media at the City Mortuary.
He urged the government to get to the bottom of Msando’s sudden death, just a week away to the August 8 General Election if the polls are to be viewed as free and fair.
Reports have also emerged that Msando had received threats prior to his death, and had reported the matter to the police
Kenyans vilified Gatundu South MP, Moses Kuria, after he made a post on Facebook showing that Msando’s car had been found in Roysambu and he could be enjoying good time in the area with a woman.
“So this is Chris Musando’s vehicle right here at Roysambu. The idiot is enjoying good time with a woman,” a post indicated.
Kenyans on Twitter later attacked the Gatundu South MP over the Facebook post.

Moses Kuria, You shall fall. And all Kenyans should retweet this with anger. #RIPMsando. This election is a big joke! A farce!
Msando’s body was found on Saturday, July 29, in Kiambu county and taken to City Mortuary in Nairobi. His body was found along with that of an unidentified woman.
Those who served with him at the IEBC including Andrew Limo, Tabitha Mutemi and Ronnel Onchagwa described the late Msando as an eloquent person who exuded great passion and in-depth knowledge of technology.
The Nasa coalition strongly condemned the brutal murder of the ICT official terming it as inhumane and a ploy to subvert democracy in the country.
“Chris Msando’s brutal killing was an attempt to drive a dagger into the heart of the forthcoming election, and indeed a dagger into the heart of Kenyan democracy. But we are totally confident that this terrible crime will accomplish the opposite and strengthen all Kenyans’ will to demand a free, fair and credible election,” Mr Musalia Mudavadi who read the Nasa statement said.

Company of female passenger is not a capital offense. GOK should drop that exhausted line and tell us who and why Chris Musando was killed.

Nelson Mandela once said: “A critical, independent, and investigative press is the lifeblood of any democracy. The press must be free from state interference. It must have the economic strength to stand up to the blandishments of government officials. It must have sufficient independence from vested interests to be bold and inquiring without fear or favor. It must enjoy the protection of the constitution, so that it can protect our rights as citizens.”
